Remove a PDF opening password
Use Unlock PDF to remove the password required to open a PDF when you already know that password. Enter it, create an unlocked copy, and save the new file. The original PDF stays unchanged.
How to use Unlock PDF
- Select a PDF. Choose one password-protected document up to 50 MB.
- Enter its current password. The tool needs the correct password to open the document.
- Name the unlocked copy. Keep the suggested filename or enter another one.
- Unlock and download. The browser removes the opening password and downloads a separate PDF.
What if I have forgotten the password?
PDFArmy cannot recover or guess a forgotten password. Ask the person who sent the document, check your password manager, or look for the original or a backup copy. Unlock PDF does not attempt password cracking.
This tool removes an opening password from a PDF you can already open. It does not recover a password or repair a damaged PDF.
Privacy and file security
Your PDF and password are processed locally in your browser. They are not uploaded to PDFArmy. The qpdf WebAssembly library loads from jsDelivr, so an internet connection is needed to load it; your document and password stay on your device.
This tool uses the open-source qpdf engine and its browser WebAssembly wrapper.
