How to convert PDF to Word

Extract selectable text from a PDF and save it as an editable DOCX document. This free online converter creates a separate Word file and leaves your original PDF unchanged.

How to use the PDF to Word tool

  1. Select a PDF. Choose one PDF file up to 50 MB from your device.
  2. Check the output name. Keep the suggested DOCX filename or enter another one.
  3. Convert the file. Select “Convert to Word and download”. Your PDF is processed in your browser.
  4. Download the DOCX. The file downloads automatically. You can download it again from the confirmation page.

What this converter can preserve

The tool reads selectable text and organises it into editable paragraphs, keeping page order and many line breaks where possible. PDF and Word use different page layouts, so columns, tables, spacing, fonts, images, and other formatting may not match the original exactly. Review the DOCX in a word processor and make any needed changes.

Scanned and password-protected PDFs

A scanned PDF contains page images instead of selectable text. This tool does not include optical character recognition (OCR), so it cannot convert scanned pages. Password-protected, damaged, or unsupported PDFs may also fail to open.

DOCX output and file privacy

The converter creates a DOCX file, the modern Word document format. It does not create the older DOC format. Your PDF is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded to PDFArmy. PDF and ZIP libraries load from third-party CDNs, so an internet connection is needed to use the converter.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a PDF to an editable Word file?

Yes. The tool extracts selectable text from a PDF and saves it in an editable DOCX document.

Can I download a DOC file?

This tool creates DOCX files. The older DOC format is not available.

Will the Word document look exactly like the PDF?

Not always. The converter keeps text and page order, but complex layouts, tables, images, and spacing can change. Please review the DOCX after conversion.

Can I convert a scanned PDF?

No. Scanned pages are images and need OCR to recognise their text. OCR is not included in this tool.

Are my PDF files uploaded?

No. Your PDF is processed in your browser and is not sent to PDFArmy. The PDF and ZIP libraries load separately from third-party CDNs.

Will this change my original PDF?

No. PDFArmy creates a separate DOCX copy. Your original PDF remains unchanged on your device.
