How to convert PDF to Excel

Extract selectable text from a PDF and save it in an XLSX workbook. Each PDF page becomes its own worksheet, so you can edit and organise the extracted content in a spreadsheet app.

How to use the PDF to Excel tool

  1. Select a PDF. Choose one PDF file up to 50 MB from your device.
  2. Check the output filename. Keep the suggested XLSX filename or enter another one.
  3. Convert the PDF. PDFArmy reads selectable text and arranges it into spreadsheet rows in your browser.
  4. Download the workbook. The XLSX file downloads automatically and can be downloaded again from the confirmation page.

Text extraction and table limitations

The tool reads selectable PDF text and uses its position on the page to arrange lines and possible columns. It does not reproduce the original PDF layout exactly. Complex tables, merged cells, columns, and spacing may need manual correction in Excel.

Scanned and password-protected PDFs

Scanned PDFs contain page images rather than selectable text. This tool does not include OCR, so it cannot read text from scanned pages. Password-protected, damaged, or unsupported PDFs may also fail to open.

Privacy and file security

Your PDF is processed in your browser and is not sent to PDFArmy. PDF.js and SheetJS load from third-party CDNs, so an internet connection is needed to load the conversion libraries.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Excel?

No. Scanned pages are images. This tool extracts selectable text and does not include optical character recognition (OCR).

Will the Excel workbook match the PDF exactly?

No. Text is arranged into worksheet rows using its position on the page. Complex tables and layouts may need manual correction.

How are PDF pages organised in the workbook?

Each PDF page becomes a separate worksheet named for its page number. If a page has no selectable text, its worksheet contains a note.

Are my PDF files uploaded?

No. Your PDF is processed in your browser and is not sent to PDFArmy. The required libraries load from third-party CDNs.

Will this change my original PDF?

No. PDFArmy creates a separate XLSX workbook. Your original PDF remains unchanged on your device.
